Rendered Speculation: 2010 BMW 5-Series
Spy Photos, Sedans/Saloons, BMW With cars everywhere going all edgy, it should be clear that Chris Bangle’s controversial “flame surfacing” design language has left its mark. Whether it ever looked right on the BMW 5-Series, however, is still up for debate, even after the mid-life facelift. (Not that it has stopped BMW from rolling out its 5,000,000th 5-Series earlier this week.) However the 5 is due for replacement late next year, and our friends at eGMCarTech think they have a good idea of what it will look like. Codenamed E62, the 2010 5-Series is widely anticipated to draw on the new styling direction previewed by the CS Concept which BMW laid on us in Shanghai. Car Porn: Supercarmovies.com films the Lamborghini LP640
Videos, Supercars, Lamborghini click above for more images of the Lambo LP640 taken by Supercarmovies.com We’re big fans of car photography and videos here at Autoblog if you couldn’t tell. We bloggers take all our own photos and shoot our own video. We’ve gotten a lot better at it over time, but even we have to admit that Autoblog’s like an independent studio compared to the professionals at Supercarmovies.com. We hear their entire team is comprised of former high school A/V club presidents, but that’s just a rumor. So we’re glad that the Supercarmovies.com team tips us off when new material gets published. Today they’ve unveiled a multimedia package devoted entirely to a Lamborghini LP640. (Read the full post about ‘Car Porn: Supercarmovies.com films the Lamborghini LP640′…)

Photoshop fun: Plymouth Chrysler Barracuda concept

Photoshop fun: <strike/>Plymouth Chrysler Barracuda concept” src=”/wp-content/thumbs/photoshop-fun-plymouth-chrysler-barracuda-concept.jpg” style=”padding: 7px; float: left;” /><br />
Concept Cars, Coupes, Chrysler, Dodge Click either image for a high-res gallery. When Chrysler trotted out the ‘Cuda concept this past November at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, our first thought, after wanting to give it our lunch money, was that it might be one of the few examples in recent memory where Chrysler’s badge engineering boffins couldn’t drop the ball. A Photoshop wizard from Sao Paulo, Brazil by the name of Rafael Reston figured that Chrysler wasn’t working fast enough (if at all) and decided to mock up his own interpretation of a Barracuda revival. While we’re not entirely sold on the styling cues he chose, which straddle the line between concept car gauche and an art student’s waste basket, we still like the idea. <a href= Posted in Honda | No Comments »

Packing on the pounds: UK-spec RS6 Avant will cost £77,625

Packing on the pounds: UK-spec RS6 Avant will cost £77,625
Car Buying, Wagons/Estates, Euro, Audi, UK click above for a high-res gallery of the Audi RS6 Avant There are a lot of different figures to get caught up in when discussing Audi’s UK-spec RS6 Avant, and most of them concern the wagon’s performance. Let’s start with power. The RS6 produces 572 hp and 479 lb.-ft. of torque from a twin-turbo’d V10. That means 60 comes up in 4.6 seconds, the quarter mile is dispatched in 14.9 seconds (at 124 mph) and Audi has to limit the top speed to 155 mph for fear of… well, you name it. The price on the other hand is just as shocking. £77,625 is the cost of entry for the RS6, but only 380 Avants will be produce this year and they’ve all been snatched up by enthusiasts with a few kids and a dog to schlep around. Granted, the RS6 Avant comes equipped with Quattro, ESP, 20-inch rollers and Alcantara lining the inside, but that price doesn’t include the optional carbon ceramic brakes. Just for some perspective, you can pick up the M5 Touring in the UK for about £10,000 less - even the R8 is about a grand cheaper. Audi counting down to new era that starts at kickoff
Convertibles, Marketing/Advertising, Supercars, Audi Audi has updated its U.S. website with a short video that features a counter ticking the time away “until the moment of truth.” The seconds flying by lead up to the date and time of Super Bowl XLII this Sunday. Below is a short message that says, “On February 3, 2008, over 140 million TV viewers will witness the start of a new era. Register now for your exclusive sneak preview… and more.” While the video only shows dark glimpses of the R8’s wheel and headlight, something tells us Audi has big things planned for its very expensive Godfather-themed Super Bowl commercial. How Many Races Has Barrichello Driven?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Honda driver Rubens Barrichello is due to eclipse the long-standing record of grand prix entries this season, with most reporters saying that the Brazilian will surpass Riccardo Patrese’s 256 starts in Turkey. However, like most things in Formula One, it isn’t quite as straight-forward as you’d think. You may be under the impression that one of the most technologically advanced sports with some of the worlds most intelligent employees and fans would be able to work out a simple addition of participated events. Well, we can’t. Here’s some reasoning behind the confusion.

Barrichello first drove in a Formula One grand prix at the South African event in 1993, driving a Jordan Hart.

Is it worth having Maintenance?

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

A fully maintained lease offers complete peace of mind and financial security as the monthly figure you pay incorporates the total cost of routine servicing and maintenance. This way all servicing, tyres (normally excluding punctures), brakes and exhausts are covered with no additional cost. Should you go over your mileage allowance the pence per mile penalty will also incorporate maintenance. Therefore you should have no unexpected costs over the duration of the lease.

This is extremely beneficial to high mileage users, typically 20-30k per anum.

Lower mileage users, up to 20k per anum, should also consider non-maintained contracts on their own financial merit.

Nissan streamlines Nismo, extends parts availablity in Japan
Aftermarket, Tuners, Japan, Nissan Nissan’s in-house tuning arm, Nismo, is looking to expand its reach both in its home market and abroad, beginning with an S-Tune package for, of all things, the Tiida. Beyond the Tiida (Versa here in the States), Nissan plans to offer Nismo parts and professional tuning at every one of its dealerships in Japan, with plans to expand the network across the globe. That could mean that you’ll be able to hit up your local Nissan dealer for a Nismo exhaust and intake, have it installed while you’re there and possibly get an ECU reflash to make better use of the parts.
